At the request of the Department of Commerce (DoC), the International Trade Centre (ITC), a joint agency of the United Nations and the World Trade Organization (WTO), developed an online platform that provides the step-by-step functionality of import and export procedures and formalities for selected products, from the trader’s point of view, as a complement to the Sri Lanka Trade Information Portal (SLTIP).
The technical support for this is activity was provided within the framework of the EU-Sri Lanka Trade-Related Assistance project, implemented by ITC and funded by the European Union (EU). ITC developed the functionality in partnership with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) also provided further support to extend the product coverage, taking into account the interest of the traders.
The step-by-step functionality contributes to enhance access to trade-related information and transparency of trade procedures for selected products in Sri Lanka, and to drive simplification reforms of such procedures. Available in English, Sinhala and Tamil, the step-by-step functionality serves as one-stop-shop providing useful, clear, precise and up-to-date information on export and import procedures in Sri Lanka in an easily accessible manner for the business operators. This platform hence contributes to fulfil enhanced transparency and predictability of trade information in Sri Lanka for the benefit of policymakers, border regulatory agencies and the business community alike.
